CDN for Joomla! rewrites matching local file URLs in your site's rendered output so visitors request those files from an origin-pull Content Delivery Network (CDN) hostname.

The extension does not upload, copy, or move files. It also does not move the Joomla HTML page to the CDN. Your CDN service retrieves requested files from the website origin and controls its own caching and delivery.

How it works

  1. Joomla renders the page on your website.
  2. CDN for Joomla! changes matching local asset URLs to the configured CDN hostname.
  3. The visitor's browser requests those files from the CDN.
  4. When necessary, the origin-pull CDN retrieves the file from your website, caches it, and serves it through its network.

You choose which file types are rewritten and which paths or filenames are ignored. Pro adds multiple independently filtered CDN sets, multiple deterministic hostnames within a set, site and page-protocol filters, and file versioning.

The result depends on the CDN provider, cache configuration, visitor location, and the files being served. Configure and test the CDN service before enabling URL rewriting on a production site.
